Insurance scenario learning: turn knowledge into a reviewable decision

Design role-based practice with clear feedback, assessment and maintenance responsibilities.

Practical implementation guide · Reviewed 29 October 2026

Define what good practice looks like

Insurance employees may need product knowledge, accurate explanations and the judgement to recognise when to seek help. Before selecting an authoring format, define a specific decision or conversation and the criteria a reviewer would use to assess it. For Singapore and regional programmes, confirm the applicable local process with its owner rather than assuming one script suits every market.

Separate knowledge from judgement

A recall question can check terminology. It may not reveal whether an employee can explain a limitation, ask a useful question or escalate uncertainty. Build a learning sequence that distinguishes preparation, practice and review. Use short content for prerequisites and a scenario for the choices that require application.

Write scenarios around meaningful choices

Specify the learner role, information available and task to complete. Offer plausible choices with feedback that explains the reasoning and consequences. Avoid rewarding a response simply because it repeats a phrase. Review examples with subject experts and remove confidential customer details before materials enter production.

Agree the assessment and coaching model

Choose which criteria are assessed automatically and which require a manager or facilitator. Establish how feedback is recorded, how another attempt works and what evidence is retained. Link the programme to LMS records or facilitated training only after the intended configuration has been demonstrated with sample records.

Pilot for clarity and practical use

Ask representative learners to explain why they made their choices. Look for ambiguous instructions, unrealistic options and differences between the learning design and actual work. Check mobile readability, assessment feedback and accessibility. Document changes before expanding the programme; a high completion rate alone does not establish competence.

Plan maintenance as part of the scope

Product and operating changes can invalidate a scenario. Assign owners for review, source approval and retirement of old versions. Training administration can coordinate follow-up, while business owners retain decisions about suitability and performance. Any professional development credits or external recognition need separate confirmation; a platform completion record does not create accreditation.

Discuss your programme
